“This is the fastest-changing medium ever in history,” asserts Matt Gill. “You really have to be flexible, willing to learn and evolve with the different marketing methods online.”
A true Internet marketing pioneer, Gill would know. Since beginning his online career in 1998, he has made tens of millions of dollars—and watched the Internet evolve from virtual Wild West to an established industry.
“It’s a luxury, people getting started today really have an advantage to learn from documented standards and processes and procedures that are proven to work online,” he says. Back when he first started trying to make money online, “it took a lot of trial and error to figure out what worked… there was no real documentation on what Internet marketing was about.”
Fortunately, Gill managed to crack the code on his own. Developing his Internet marketing expertise “was a huge breakthrough for me,” he says—one that led to countless opportunities. Long before the affiliate marketing model had even been born, in fact, companies whose products were selling well offline began offering Gill a percentage of online sales if he could get their products selling online.
These days, at the age of 37, Gill is a multi-millionaire who owns a portfolio of online domain names, including trafficology.com and jobcrusher.com, both in the Internet marketing niche. One of Gills biggest passions is helping other people create their own successful Internet businesses using proven marketing systems taught exclusively inside of his site http://www.JobCrusher.com
Gill’s also has great insight into Internet “real estate,” the buying and selling of domain names. “It is one of the biggest increasing investments you can make. Period.” Contrary to popular belief, he adds, there are still a lot of profitable opportunities in domain names. The key to succeeding in this arena is to “purchase a lot of keyword-rich domain names that are either available or good finds on AfterMarket.com, and just build a domain portfolio.”
Give some thought to common phrases and words Internet surfers are likely to type directly into their browser. What people don’t realize, Gill says, is that “up to 10% of traffic is just typed-in traffic.” For instance, a phrase like LoseWeightWhileYouSleep.com could be a great opportunity. Whatever the market, be sure to focus primarily on domain names that are “relatively short, very niche specific, and keyword-rich.” Benefit-oriented names can also be advantageous.
In some cases, you may be able to “flip” domain names, Gill says. “I have bought domains for a 100, and flipped them for thousands within a week or less.” More often, though, you will want to purchase domain names and hold onto them.
Online traffic volume is how domain names are commonly valued, so whenever possible, build a site’s traffic while you’re holding onto it. Also, he adds, make sure to build lists for each web site by offering valuable free content—a newsletter, report or video course—in exchange for an email address. By adding that simple feature to their web sites, Gill adds, many of his clients achieve a 20% email opt-in rate.
Last but not least, Gill recommends offloading some of the “not so fun parts of web businesses” to ClickBank. “They handle the affiliate side of things, the accounting and payment processing side of things.” Having ClickBank take care of those functions “alleviates the headaches involved with running a traditional business, which can allow you to focus on your specialty and/or your Internet marketing,” Gill concludes.
It is advice this veteran Internet marketer has followed throughout his long and incredibly successful online career. From the beginning, Gill has left the product creation and other functions to those who do that best, so that he can stay focused on the topic that has driven him from the very beginning. “I live and breathe Internet marketing,” he adds. “Marketing is my life.”
